The Market Renewal Program (MRP) newsletter provides information and updates on testing, training and stakeholder engagement activities that will help Market Participants prepare for the launch of MRP on May 1, 2025. Market Participant Testing
MRP Connectivity Testing Update
Connectivity Testing for changing Sandbox applications is open to all Market Participants until May 24, 2024. Participants can verify that they are able to log in and connect with the applications that will be tested in Market Trials and End-to-End Testing, which include: Online IESO, IESO Report Site, Outage Coordination and Scheduling System (OCSS), Energy Market Interface (EMI)/Market Information Management (MIM), and Dispatch Service. Market Participants are highly encouraged to participate to address connectivity issues that may delay their ability to participate in the next phase of testing which will start in July 2024. IESO Reports Impacted by MRP
Updates to the list of market facing reports impacted by MRP
The complete list of market-facing reports impacted by MRP is posted on the Technical Reference Materials section of the Market Renewal webpage and includes the following updates:
- A new report titled “Intertie Economic Withholding Monthly Summary Report” has been added. The schema, sample, and help files for this report was delivered in Q1 2024.
- The report audience for both the Day-Ahead Market Financial Reference Level Report and the Real-Time Market Financial Reference Level Report has changed from Public to Market Participant Confidential.
- The Realtime Operating Reserve Bid Offer Report was identified for no change in detailed design. During implementation, it was found that the content for this report will be revised, and the report will be renamed as Realtime Market Operating Reserve Offer Report.
- A new report has been added to the list: Day-Ahead Market Operating Reserve Offer Report. The schema, sample, and help files for this report will be delivered in Q2 2024.
- Changed names of various reports for consistency with references in other documents.
Release of the Third batch of New and Updated Schema, Sample and Help Files for IESO Reports
The third batch of schema, sample and help files for revised and new market and system reports are available on the Technical Reference Materials section of the Market Renewal webpage. It is recommended for Market Participants to verify that they can view and download these reports, and confirm that the structural changes in these files can be accepted by their internal processes and systems before MRP Go-Live on May 1, 2025. Stakeholder Engagement
Recordings and slide decks available from the April 25, 2024 MRP Stakeholder Engagement webinar posted
A MRP Stakeholder Engagement webinar was scheduled on April 25, 2024 where the IESO provided stakeholders an update on the transition to the new market, additional clarity on the Dispatch Schedule Error process, suspended administration of Physical Bilateral Contracts (PBCs), and a brief overview of the transitional rules that will be a part of the Final Alignment batch of Market Rule amendments. Responses posted on the Market Power Mitigation changes made to the Market Rules and Market Manuals
The IESO provided responses to stakeholder feedback and questions received on the Market Power Mitigation changes made to the Market Rules and Market Manuals that were presented at the December 15, 2023 webinar. The responses can be found on the “February 28, 2024” row under the Schedule of Activities table on the Implementation Engagement section of the Market Renewal webpage.
Responses posted on the Market and System Operations batch draft Market Rules and Market Manuals
The IESO provided responses to stakeholder feedback and questions received on the Market & System Operations batch draft of market rule and market manual amendments that was published on July 14, 2023. The responses can be found on the “March 13, 2024” row under the Schedule of Activities table on the Implementation Engagement section of the Market Renewal webpage. Market Participants can also view the updated Market Rules and Market Manuals amendments on the Implementation Documents section of the Market Renewal webpage.
Training
Posting of the Four-Area Demand Forecasts for Ontario Quick Takes
A new quick take titled Four-Area Demand Forecasts for Ontario has been created to provide an overview of how the IESO’s daily Demand Forecasts will be changing as a result of MRP. The Four-Area Demand Forecasts for Ontario quick take can be found on the Training Materials section of the Market Renewal webpage.
New Settlement Reference Materials Page
To help Market Participants understand the changes being made to settlement charge types, a new section on the Market Renewal webpage called Settlement Reference Materials has been created. The IESO has prepared a spreadsheet that shows how existing charge types connect to the new charge types under MRP. This document can be used as a supplementary resource to support Market Participants’ internal training efforts, as well as when updating Market Participants’ settlement systems and procedures. Local Distributions Companies (LDCs) can email market.renewal@ieso.ca to obtain a copy of the MRP Mapping Summary of Charge Types and Variance Accounts for LDCs spreadsheet.

Last day for Market Participants to conduct Connectivity Testing and to submit their test results to the IESO.

Wrap-up meeting for Connectivity Testing.
