Working with its partners, the IESO guides the province's electricity conservation efforts by supporting programs that foster a culture of conservation, build market capability and promote innovation.
The IESO works collaboratively with local distribution companies and other partners to deliver conservation programs throughout Ontario. Its mandate is to ensure residents, businesses, hospitals and schools have the information and tools they need to manage their electricity use efficiently.

Conservation First is a guiding principle that will help Ontario remain a leading jurisdiction in energy conservation. The new six-year Conservation First Framework is designed to reduce electricity consumption by seven terawatt-hours (TWh) or seven billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) by December 31, 2020.
The Framework will provide a streamlined approach for LDCs to design province-wide and local
Save on Energy programs for customers; an energy efficiency target based on achievable potential in the LDC service territory; and the flexibility to allocate a six year budget as they see fit for cost-effective delivery of programs.
