Eligibility and Fund Application

The IESO Conservation Fund accepts unsolicited applications during defined intake windows. The timing of intake windows is posted on this webpage and communicated through other IESO channels. The next open intake window for the Conservation Fund is March 1 to 31, 2019.

Please note that IESO has introduced changes to Conservation Fund project eligibility and program documents since the last intake window. Please refer to the Eligibility and Fund Application webpage for the current Application Guideline and Project Overview Application template.

Please note that projects seeking support from the IESO Conservation Fund where new inverter-based equipment will be installed must comply with the requirements stated in the IESO Interim Requirements for the Application of IEEE 1547-2018. This document provides context and background for the introduction of the interim requirements.

Applications for projects designed to develop or pilot innovative conservation technologies, practices, research and programs are welcome under the Conservation Fund.

Eligible projects can focus on one of the following categories:

  • Program
  • Tool
  • Training
  • Community of practice
  • Strategic research
  • Emerging technology development
  • Emerging technology demonstration
  • Strategic opportunities

Projects relating to the research, development and demonstration of transmission, distribution, and electricity generation (e.g. solar, wind, waterpower, and fossil fuels) are not eligible for funding, with the exception of waste energy recovery projects.

The Conservation Fund does not provide funding to individuals, including incorporated individuals and sole proprietorships.

Application Form

Applicants should prepare and complete a Project Overview Application template and submit it to cfundapplications@ieso.ca

An IESO review committee will review applications using the following criteria:

  • Strategic fit
  • Potential impact on program design and/or measures
  • Capacity building
  • Market, program or technical advance
  • Project team and partners
  • Local hydro company involvement
  • Project funding
  • Project outcomes
  • Project design

If the Project Overview Application is accepted, a representative from the Conservation Fund will invite the applicant to submit a full proposal. It can take up to two months for the project proposal to be reviewed, evaluated and revised.
