Four new members appointed to the IESO Board of Directors

June 20, 2019

The IESO is pleased to announce the appointments of Steve Baker, Michael Bernstein, Patricia Koval and Richard Wilson to our board of directors.

  • Steve Baker joined Union Gas in 1989 and held progressively senior roles until assuming the role of president in 2012, leaving following the merger with Enbridge. An accountant by training, Steve has played an active role in a number of mergers, acquisitions and broader company restructuring, and has sat on the boards of many energy-related organizations in both the for profit and not-for profit space.

  • Michael Bernstein is the former president and CEO of Capstone Infrastructure Corp., where he was responsible for the company’s overall portfolio management of power infrastructure and utilities across Canada and internationally. Prior to Capstone, Michael was CEO of the Macquarie Group, where he was responsible for the Infrastructure and Utilities Advisory business. He was also a senior executive at CIBC World Market’s Power & Utilities business.

  • Patricia Koval has recently retired as a senior partner from Torys LLP, where she focused extensively on corporate finance, M&A, restructuring and governance. In addition to chairing the Canada-India Business Council, she has served on a number of boards, including the Living City Foundation (now the Toronto and Region Conservation Foundation), World Wildlife Fund and, most recently, the board of the Trans Mountain Pipeline.

  • Richard Wilson is a partner in PwC’s Cybersecurity and Privacy practice, and has worked with the board of the IESO in the past. With in-depth experience in energy, mining and utilities, Richard brings a deep appreciation of the challenges facing the sector. His practice has focused primarily on advising boards and C-suite clients on governance strategies for planning, risk and risk response.
