IESO CEO sheds light on importance of preparing for a high-DER future

With the growth of distributed energy resources (DERs) transforming the electricity landscape, IESO CEO Peter Gregg highlights the need for informed discussion on various models to ensure these resources are effectively integrated into Ontario’s grid. Referring to a recent report by the Energy Transformation Network of Ontario, Gregg suggests that as a sector we need to consider the pros and cons of these models, and their impact on reliability and affordability. Only then can we begin the discussion, and ensure policy-makers and regulators won’t be caught by surprise—and left to figure out the rules after change has already become entrenched.
