Conservation Efforts Helped Stabilize the Ontario Power System

August 16, 2003

August 16, 2003 (7:00 P.M. EST)

The Independent Electricity Market Operator (IMO) asks that Ontarians continue to conserve energy. Our ability to meet electricity demand tomorrow and next week depends, in part, on continued conservation efforts.

Demand in Ontario hit a peak of 17,650 MW at 5 p.m. EST today. Conservation efforts and imports from neighbouring jurisdictions helped avoid the need for rotating power outages.
