Voltage Levels Restored in the Greater Toronto Area

September 12, 2005

Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) restored voltage levels in an area bounded by Whitby and Oakville, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) at 5:15 p.m. EDT.

The five per cent reduction, which began at 4:10 p.m. EDT, was required due to a transmission line fault in the GTA. This level of voltage reduction should not have been noticeable to most consumers. An investigation into the event is underway.

The IESO is responsible for managing Ontario's bulk electricity system and operating the wholesale electricity market. For more information, visitwww.ieso.ca.
