Implementation Plan for 2017 Long-Tern Energy Plan

February 22, 2018

The IESO has released the Implementation Plan for the 2017 Long-Term Energy Plan (LTEP). Entitled Putting Ontario’s Long-Term Energy Plan Into Action, the plan charts a path forward for implementing the initiatives in the government’s plan.

Feedback from stakeholders, as well as from First Nations and Métis, helped to inform the proposed scope of activities and the timeline for implementation. A summary of the feedback received and the IESO’s response is available here.

The plan outlines the LTEP initiatives the IESO will be implementing, which fall under three categories:

  • Supporting Indigenous capacity and leadership, which involves working with First Nations and Métis to improve and expand access to conservation programs and evolve support programs to better meet their needs
  • Encouraging an innovative sector, which will see the IESO work with industry stakeholders and other interested parties to identify and address barriers to fair competition for energy storage with other resources and learn from innovative renewable distributed generation and power-to-gas pilot projects
  • Delivering a flexible and efficient system, which will evolve electricity planning to better serve Ontario communities and consumers.

This marks the first implementation plan the IESO has delivered under the new long-term planning process established by legislation in 2016. The Implementation Plan is available here.
