New local program approved- Smart Roof-top Units for Small and Mid-Size Business

November 30, 2016

Toronto Hydro and Oakville Hydro received approval to implement a local program that would provide HVAC controls to industrial, commercial, and institutional customers. The Smart RT for Small and Mid-Size Business Program provides customers with incentives to increase the efficiency of packaged HVAC units (i.e. roof-top units, "RT") through the addition of smart thermostats, occupancy sensors and demand controlled ventilation. The program includes an assessment of the HVAC equipment and provides customers with a  range of controls upgrades based on eligibility determined during the assessment. This approved local program is based on two pilots funded under the LDC Innovation Fund, Commercial Energy Management and Load Control (CEMLC) and RTU Controls and integrates key learnings from both pilots.
