A deep understanding of emerging issues in Ontario is crucial to electricity planning. The IESO undertakes in-depth research and energy profiles to determine the scope of issues, and identify greater opportunities for energy efficiency within industries, municipalities and communities.
Exploring energy-efficiency solutions in greenhouses
Ontario’s greenhouse electricity use is forecast to increase 180% to 3.9 TWh by 2024, driven by rapid expansion in the province’s prime growing regions and dependence on grow lighting. Commissioned by the IESO, in partnership with Enbridge Gas and the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, this report highlights the important role of energy-efficiency initiatives – like Save on Energy’s Retrofit program – in addressing growing demand. Home Energy Survey
In the summer of 2018, the IESO conducted its first ever comprehensive Residential End Use Survey (REUS). The REUS provides valuable information about the building characteristics, equipment, appliances and behaviours that drive residential energy use in Ontario. The REUS provides important information to the IESO, local distribution companies (LDCs), gas utilities and other stakeholders to support three primary objectives:
- Develop end-use saturations & fuel shares to support the 2019 achievable potential study;
- Provide data on residential building characteristics, equipment penetration and demographics to support program design, evaluation and marketing; and
- Provide relevant household equipment data to support electricity load forecasting.
