Introducing Beacon - New IESO Contract Management Tool

What Is Beacon?

Beacon is a new tool that the IESO is introducing this year to enable Suppliers and Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) to manage all their active FIT and/or microFIT Contracts online. Once it is released, Beacon will allow the IESO, Suppliers and LDCs to view information, manage contractual obligations, and send and receive notifications for existing FIT and microFIT Contracts. It will consolidate all contract information in one place and integrate the contract management functions of both the FIT and microFIT programs, creating a single comprehensive and secure system that allows for accurate and efficient data management.

News & Updates

Online microFIT Contract Requests

The IESO will be disabling the submission of online Change Notices, Amendments, and Assignment Requests on November 1, 2019 at 4:00pm. In-progress requests that have been submitted through the “My microFIT Home Page” will be reviewed and processed on a continuing basis. Beginning November 4, 2019, any incomplete requests will be cancelled by the IESO but can be reinitiated in Beacon once it is available.

Timelines

The IESO is currently planning to release Beacon before the end of 2019. Please check this website regularly for additional updates. In addition, communications will be sent directly to FIT and microFIT contract holders and LDCs with respect to next steps and any required actions.

Update - November 11, 2019

Beacon implementation has begun. The IESO is targeting to have Beacon available to FIT and microFIT Suppliers, LDCs and other program users before the end of November 2019.

Update - November 1, 2019

As communicated on October 25, 2019 via a post to the My microFIT Homepage, the IESO has disabled the submission of online Change Notices, Amendments and Assignment Requests effective November 1, 2019 at 4:00 pm. In-progress requests that have been submitted through the My microFIT Homepage will be reviewed and processed on a continuing basis. Beginning November 4, 2019, any incomplete requests will be cancelled by the IESO but can be reinitiated in Beacon once it is available.

In preparation for Beacon’s release, please note that access to the My microFIT Homepage will no longer be available as of November 11, 2019.

Update - July 17, 2019

Currently, microFIT contract holders have access to their information and can submit changes through their My microFIT Homepage.  Any requests requiring actions from the Supplier or the Assignee that are currently in progress should be completed as soon as possible through either your My microFIT Homepage or through existing communications mechanisms for FIT (your contract analyst or FIT.Contract@ieso.ca). The IESO will be sending reminders to Suppliers with requests in progress and, upon request, can assist in efforts to process these requests in advance of Beacon’s release date. Any requests that are not processed by the time of Beacon is released will need to be restarted within Beacon.

What’s Next?

Suppliers and LDCs can expect to receive additional communications from the IESO Contract Management Team in the coming weeks both via this website and email. These communications cover requests for information, verification of certain contact details, and updates on timelines and next steps in the transition to Beacon.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a FIT or microFIT contract. What will Beacon do for me?

Once you have completed the registration and verification processes (detailed information coming soon) in Beacon, you will be able to view and manage all of your active FIT and/or microFIT Contracts. This includes submitting requests related to amendments, assignments and managing contacts (i.e. multiple Suppliers and/or representatives) associated with your contracts. You will also have access to up-to-date information on your contracts in one place.

I work for an LDC. What will Beacon do for me?

Once you have completed the LDC account registration process in Beacon, you will be able to view and manage all of the active FIT and/or microFIT Contracts and assigned tasks associated with your LDC. This includes responding to clarification requests and receiving notifications from the IESO related to amendments and assignments. You will also have access to up-to-date information on these contracts in one place.

How will I get access to Beacon once the system is released?

Detailed registration and information verification instructions will be sent to FIT and microFIT contract holders ("Suppliers") and LDCs upon Beacon’s release.

I have an account in a current tool (e.g. My microFIT Homepage, My FIT Homepage). Will all my information be available in Beacon?

If you are a current FIT or microFIT Supplier, your information will be available after you have completed the registration and verification processes (detailed information coming soon) in Beacon. Note that you must use the email address listed on your microFIT Contract or on record with the IESO FIT Contract Management team. Once you have completed these processes, your current contracts will be available to view and you will be able to initiate requests.

If you had submitted an application for a FIT or microFIT contract, but did not receive a contract or your contract has been terminated, your application information will not be accessible in Beacon. Further communications will be sent to applicants who did not receive/accept a contract or whose contracts have been terminated, reminding them to save any information in the previous systems they want to retain for their records.

I am new to the FIT or microFIT Program. How do I create an account?

The IESO is no longer accepting new applications for the FIT and microFIT programs. If, however, you are being assigned a current FIT or microFIT Contract, you will be able to create a new account by completing the registration process available on this page after Beacon’s release date. Once you’ve completed the registration process, you will be able to log into Beacon and can be included as a part of a contract assignment request.

Someone helps me with my FIT or microFIT contract. Can they have access to my contract in Beacon?

There are two separate roles in Beacon – the “Approver” and the “Agent.” If you have been verified by the IESO as the FIT or microFIT Supplier prior to Beacon’s release, you will automatically be considered as an “Approver” within Beacon. As an Approver, you will have the ability to add additional individuals as your “Agents” in Beacon. Once added by an Approver, an Agent will be able to view the contracts assigned to them, and can perform limited functions in certain circumstances. All actions related to the contract that are performed by Agents will be sent to the Approver(s) for sign off before being submitted to the IESO for review.

I am buying a property with a FIT or microFIT contract or need to make a change/update to my information. Do I have to wait until Beacon is released?

Currently, only microFIT Suppliers have access to their information and can submit changes through their My microFIT Homepage. As indicated under “Required Actions”, requests currently in progress that require actions from the Supplier or the Assignee should be completed as soon as possible through either the My microFIT Homepage for microFIT or through existing communications mechanisms for FIT (your contract analyst or FIT.Contract@ieso.ca).

Who should I contact if I experience technical difficulties with Beacon?

After Beacon’s release, if you are having difficulty signing up for or logging into an account, please contact beacon.support@ieso.ca.

Why am I being contacted about Beacon?

You are being contacted because you are a current FIT and/or microFIT Supplier. Additional information and instructions on how to register will be sent to you directly when Beacon becomes available.

What type of information will be available to me in Beacon?

You will see all information related to your FIT and/or microFIT Contract(s). This includes contract price, facility information, applicable documents, history of any contract changes going forward and the ability to manage personal profile and contact information.

To the extent this response is inconsistent with any terms or conditions contained in Supplier’s FIT/microFIT Contract, the terms and conditions contained in Supplier’s FIT/microFIT Contract shall prevail.

Why should I register when Beacon becomes available?

Beacon will allow the IESO, Suppliers and LDCs to view information, manage contractual obligations, and send and receive notifications for existing FIT and microFIT Contracts. All requests for changes related to the FIT and/or microFIT Contract will need to be submitted through Beacon. Types of requests include, but are not limited to: changes to contact information, changes to facility information, contract assignments (e.g. if a property is being sold).

If you do not register for Beacon when it becomes available, you will not be able to view your FIT and/or microFIT Contract information, submit requests for changes, or receive direct notifications from the IESO. Additional information and instructions on how to register will be sent to you directly when Beacon becomes available.

Will there be any fees or charges associated with Beacon?

No, there are no fees or charges for Beacon.

If I don't register through Beacon, will my existing FIT or microFIT contract be terminated as a result?

However, in order to access, view and manage your FIT and/or microFIT Contract and related information, you will have to register for Beacon. Additional information and instructions on how to register will be sent to you directly when Beacon becomes available.

Is participation through Beacon mandatory? Can I opt out?

Please note that access to the current MyMicroFIT Homepage (for microFIT Suppliers) will no longer be available as of November 11, 2019.

Will Beacon monitor my facility equipment for repairs and maintenance?

It does not monitor installed equipment for required repairs and maintenance. The contract holder is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the installed electricity generation equipment related to the FIT or microFIT facility.
