The IESO is seeking input to review and improve the Energy Support Programs currently offered by the IESO for First Nation and Métis communities and organizations in Ontario. These programs promote participation in Ontario’s energy sector by supporting community energy planning and renewable energy project development, as well as the building of energy knowledge and awareness, and skills related to energy projects.
The IESO has four Indigenous Energy Support Programs:
Community Energy Champion Program provides funding support to First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to hire a designated community energy champion to help plan, implement and evaluate energy-related priorities.
Indigenous Community Energy Plan Program provides funding to support First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to develop and maintain a community energy plan designed to enhance community energy security.
Education and Capacity Building Program funds projects that help build the understanding and skills needed for managing and participating in energy projects.
Indigenous Energy Projects Program provides funding support to First Nation and Métis communities and organizations to assess and develop energy projects and partnerships.
The IESO regularly conducts reviews of its Energy Support Programs, informed by feedback from communities and program recipients. This engagement initiative is being conducted to gather feedback on proposed redesign of the Energy Support Programs.
All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative.
All comments and enquiries in this engagement initiative can be directed to engagement@ieso.ca.
The IESO will provide a summary of feedback received through the surveying conducted in February 2020, and discuss and seek feedback from communities and stakeholders on proposed redesign of the Indigenous ESPs.
