Minister of Energy Outlines Further IESO Actions to Address Resource Adequacy

The Minister of Energy has issued a letter that sets out expectations for the IESO in meeting Ontario’s reliability needs. The Minister also confirmed the support provided by Minister Rickford in his May 31 letter for the IESO’s Resource Adequacy Framework and the use of competitive mechanisms to ensure resource adequacy and provide value to ratepayers.
The letter asks the IESO to continue to work with stakeholders on the design of the Medium-and Long-term RFPs and undertake a number of actions in support of government policy objectives that aim to enable continued participation of resources that meet various policy objectives. This includes future plans for small hydroelectric and biomass facilities.
