Three Transmission Options Announced to Meet Emerging Needs in Toronto

June 5, 2025

Demand for electricity in Ontario is growing quickly - and in Toronto it is growing even faster. The city’s electricity demand is expected to double by 2050. This incredible amount of growth calls for attention and action.

On Wednesday, June 4, the Honourable Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines announced three new transmission supply options for downtown Toronto that will ensure reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity supply to support new homes, economic growth and transit.

The IESO will continue to engage on the transmission options as well as complementary solutions such as local generation and energy efficiency programs and continue to inform and involve residents every step of the way, to shape a plan that reflects community needs today, and will meet the needs of future generations.
