Stakeholder Engagement Update

This engagement update provides a snapshot of all active IESO engagement activities and is updated on a monthly basis. It helps support a greater understanding of linkages between engagements, and a foundation for more comprehensive and integrated updates.

Long-Term RFP

The IESO will discuss the feedback from the March engagement session and Long-Term RFP design considerations, including: revenue streams; indigenous outreach; rated criteria; draft RFQ feedback, and timelines/next steps. At this session the IESO will provide an opportunity for questions on the Annual Acquisition Report (AAR), including supplementary procurement mechanisms for 2025/26 as identified in the 2022 AAR.

Hydroelectric Program Development & Assessment - Small Hydro

The IESO will Inform stakeholders on the design of a new program relating to re-contracting small hydroelectric facilities. This is part of the Minister of Energy’s ask under the Resource Adequacy Framework to explore ways to allow small hydroelectric facilities to continue operating beyond the expiry of their existing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), to ensure the capacity from these facilities continues to contribute to Ontario’s resource adequacy. Targeted discussions with eligible facilities are underway and highlights will be shared during the session. An introduction of key design concepts and principles of the program will be discussed and stakeholders will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss considerations going forward.

Hybrid Integration Project

The IESO will discuss stakeholder feedback received following the February meeting, and formalize the design for hybrid facility participation in IESO markets for the two foundational models.

In this meeting, the IESO will also introduce the enhanced model research study work, and will be joined by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for this portion of the meeting.

2021-2024 Conservation and Demand Management Framework: Mid-Term Review

The IESO will commence engagement on the 2021-2024 Conservation and Demand Management Framework (CDM) Mid-Term Review (MTR). The MTR is being conducted at the request of the Minister of Energy and will assess the performance of existing CDM programs and alignment of targets and budgets with emerging customer and system needs. Stakeholders will have an opportunity to ask questions and submit feedback on CDM trends, program gaps and future opportunities. This feedback will inform the IESO’s recommendations due to the Minister of Energy later this year.
