Regional Electricity Planning - Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge-Guelph

A new regional planning cycle is underway for the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge-Guelph (KWCG) region. The first cycle of regional planning for the region began in 2010 and was completed in April 2015 with the release of an Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). The next IRRP for the region is anticipated to be completed in Q1 2021.

This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration into the development of the IRRP. Interested parties include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph, as well as portions of Perth, Oxford and Wellington counties and the townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, North Dumfries, and the Region of Waterloo
  • Indigenous communities including the Grand River Métis Council, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the New Credit
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Alectra Utilities (Guelph), Energy+, Halton Hills Hydro, Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro, Waterloo North Hydro, Centre Wellington Hydro, Wellington North Power, Milton Hydro and Halton Hills Hydro
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and service providers for the area

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative.

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage communities and interested parties throughout the process can be found in the engagement plan.

All comments and enquiries in this engagement initiative can be directed to

KWCG Technical Working Group - A Technical Working Group consisting of the seven local distribution companies in the region, the local transmitter and the IESO will use this regional planning engagement initiative to consider input to develop the IRRP for the KWCG region.
