Toronto City Council Discusses Motion Regarding Phase-Out of Gas-Fired Generation

In advance of yesterday’s Toronto City Council motion on the phase-out of gas-fired electricity generation, the IESO submitted a letter to help inform the discussion, explaining the limited but critical role natural gas currently plays ensuring the reliability of our electricity system, and providing relevant context.
The IESO is undertaking a comprehensive study to assess the challenges, costs and reliability issues that would need to be addressed in any phase out of natural gas. This will be discussed further with stakeholders in the future.
