IESO Pilots Auction Approach to Secure Energy Efficiency

Successful participants of Canada’s first-ever energy efficiency auction included municipalities, hospitals, warehouses, industrial facilities and others who will implement energy efficiency projects to reduce up to 7 MW of peak electricity demand during winter 2022/2023 and summer 2023.
This unique pilot is testing ways to leverage energy efficiency’s contribution to grid reliability while allowing consumers to design solutions that best fit their needs, whether it is adopting efficiency equipment or shifting existing processes to off-peak hours. This auction pilot also complements the IESO’s suite of Save on Energy programs which focus on cost-effectively meeting system needs, driving cost competitiveness and promoting consumer-driven solutions.
