Upcoming Base Period for the Industrial Conservation Initiative

A reminder that the next Base Period for the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI) begins May 1, 2021 and ends April 30, 2022. Customers’ consumption during this Base Period will be used to determine their eligibility and peak demand factor (PDF) for the Adjustment Period of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. PDFs are used to determine an eligible customer’s Global Adjustment charges. Customers who are eligible for the ICI Adjustment Period beginning July 1, 2021 will be notified of their PDF from either their local distribution company or the IESO by May 31. The deadline to opt in or out of the ICI is June 15.
Participants in the ICI pay the global adjustment based on their percentage contribution to the top five peak demand hours in Ontario. By reducing demand during peak periods, ICI participants can both reduce their global adjustment costs and help defer the need for investments in new electricity infrastructure. On a peak day, the ICI can result in about 1500 MW in demand reductions.
