Minister Issues Letter to IESO Regarding Future System Needs

In a letter to the IESO, the Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines asked the IESO to proceed in putting forward its plans for resource acquisition to address Ontario’s emerging system needs based on the outcomes of the IESO’s Resource Adequacy Engagement. The Minister notes the importance of stakeholder engagement and expects the IESO to continue to adhere to its underlying principles of reliability, affordability, transparency, innovation and competitiveness.
To address capacity needs identified in recent Annual Planning Outlooks, the IESO worked with stakeholders to develop a resource adequacy framework for securing resources over short-, medium- and long-term periods. The Annual Acquisition Report will be released later this month and will outline some of the initial steps needed to ensure the reliability of the province’s electricity system, along with an indication of longer-term actions that will be required.
