Regional Electricity Planning - York Region 2023

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning in the GTA North Region is underway. This engagement initiative will provide interested parties with an opportunity to offer input for consideration during the regional planning process.

Regional electricity plans take up to a 20-year outlook on every region in the province. The planning process provides an opportunity for communities to tell the IESO about anticipated needs and priorities, and to contribute to the development of the options for meeting this region’s future electricity needs.

The IESO engages with local and regional communities to seek input to help inform planning activities.

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement initiative and may include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities including York Region, City of Vaughan, Town of Richmond Hill, City of Markham, Town of Aurora, Town of Newmarket, Township of King, Town of East Gwillimbury, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and Town of Georgina
  • Indigenous Communities including Alderville First Nation, Chippewas of Beausoleil First Nation, Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, Chippewas of Rama First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council c/o Haudenosaunee Development Institute, Hiawatha First Nation, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Six Nations of the Grand River and Métis Nation of Ontario

  • Consumers and service providers for the area

Additional details on the IESO’s plans to engage communities and interested parties throughout the process can be found in the Engagement Plan. All comments and enquiries on this engagement can be directed to engagement@ieso.ca.
