Transmitter Selection Framework: Community Engagement

Community Engagement Overview

To meet Ontario’s growing needs, the IESO initiated the development of a Transmitter Selection Framework (TSF) to support new transmission development and provide opportunities for communities and transmitters to participate. This initiative is in response to the release of the Powering Ontario’s Growth (POG) report in July 2023 and the July 10 letter from the Minister of Energy. Given the growing role that transmission will play in maintaining reliability and in driving the energy transition, the IESO will work to design the Transmitter Selection Framework through a predictable and efficient process that aligns with bulk system and regional planning.

Engaging with Indigenous communities and municipalities is integral to the success of the Transmitter Selection Framework. To support the engagement process, the IESO has posted a draft engagement plan that outlines expected activities, timelines and considerations for how stakeholders and communities will be engaged to advance the IESO’s efforts in developing the proposed Transmitter Selection Framework and report back to the Minister by Summer 2024. Insights, input and recommendations from Indigenous communities, municipalities, and stakeholders is critical for the design of the framework and evolution of the current process for transmission development.

This web page is supplemental to the Transmitter Selection Framework engagement initiative. It outlines the opportunities for communities to get involved in the initiative. Refer to information linked in the Related Information section below.
