The Annual Acquisition Report (AAR) translates planning and operational information, such as the forecasts outlined in the Annual Planning Outlook (APO), the Pathways to Decarbonization (P2D) report and bulk and regional plans, into a series of procurement and market activities using the Resource Adequacy Framework. The report is intended to help existing and potential proponents make decisions about assets and services that can be brought to market to address Ontario’s reliability needs.
The IESO will engage with interested parties on the 2023 AAR between January and May 2023, with an anticipated report release in Q3. Input to inform the AAR will be collected through targeted discussions and webinars. Specifically, the IESO is seeking feedback on the future participation of existing resources based on uncertainties identified in the 2022 APO, including aging assets and market exit. Feedback will help the IESO assess potential risk to future resource adequacy and inform inputs to the analysis undertaken as part of the 2023 AAR. Further information is provided in the Engagement Plan posted below.
The IESO encourages all interested parties and particularly generators, industry associations, energy technology companies and other energy solutions providers, local distribution companies, demand response providers, consumers and consumer groups to stay informed and participate in this engagement.
