This webpage is dedicated to the public engagement initiative for the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Integration Project within the Enabling Resources Program (ERP or "Program").
As noted on the IESO’s main ERP webpage, the Program is an integrated set of projects that will enable emerging resources to provide required system services and contribute to the safe and reliable operation of the bulk power system in Ontario. The Program will focus on incorporating (1) electricity storage (“storage”), hybrid generation-storage pairings (“hybrids”) and (2) small and aggregations of dispatchable Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the IESO-administered markets, tools, and processes.
Each of the ERP projects will play an important role in supporting Ontario’s future electricity needs for capacity, energy, grid services and supporting system reliability.
DER Integration Project
Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are an increasingly important resource to meet Ontario’s electricity needs. The DER Integration Project aims to unlock the value that DER aggregations can provide to the bulk electricity system by providing a mechanism for DER aggregations to access the wholesale markets and associated revenue streams. The IESO recognizes the important role of Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) and aims to implement least-regret actions that will enable DERs while allowing flexibility as the sector and regulatory framework evolves. The DER Integration Project will implement:
A new participation model for dispatchable DER aggregations to participate in the IESO-Administered Markets and support Ontario’s bulk system reliability needs.
Approaches for data sharing and operational coordination between the IESO, Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) and DER providers & aggregators.
The IESO anticipates that this initiative will be of particular interest to LDCs and their affiliates, DER owners/operators, aggregators, and resource developers.
