Regional Electricity Planning - Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge Guelph

Forecasting and Planning

Regional electricity planning for the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge-Guelph (KWCG) region was completed in May 2021 with the release of a long-term electricity plan – Integrated Regional Resource Plan (IRRP). A Regional Infrastructure Plan (RIP) led by Hydro One is expected to be completed by mid-to-late-2021. This engagement initiative provided communities and stakeholders with an opportunity to offer input for consideration into the development of the IRRP.

Interested parties that were invited to participate in this engagement initiative include but are not limited to:

  • Municipalities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph, as well as portions of Perth, Oxford and Wellington counties and the townships of Wellesley, Woolwich, Wilmot, North Dumfries, and the Region of Waterloo
  • Indigenous communities including the Grand River Métis Council, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation
  • Local distribution companies (LDCs) who serve the community including Alectra Utilities (Guelph), Energy+, Halton Hills Hydro, Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro, Waterloo North Hydro, Centre Wellington Hydro, Wellington North Power, Milton Hydro and Halton Hills Hydro
  • Transmitters
  • Consumers and service providers for the area
